Mark is an Associate Professor of Education with extensive expertise in Experiential Pedagogies and Adventure Education and Outdoor Learning. He leads research at Ethical Activities CIC, focusing specifically on social equity in outdoor learning and adventure education.
Mark’s cutting-edge research in education is demonstrated through his PhD supervision, PhD examination work, and presentations at international conferences. He is passionate about working with students of all ages and diversities, from whatever their background and life aspirations, embracing the different challenges they bring.
Through his leadership role at Ethical Activities CIC, Mark drives forward research initiatives that examine how outdoor learning and adventure education can be made more accessible and equitable across diverse communities. Mark serves as co-convenor for the British Educational Research Association’s Nature Outdoor Learning and Play special interest group, positioning him at the forefront of academic discourse in his field.
His extensive experience spans diverse educational sectors, including secondary education, residential education, outdoor centres, American summer camps, and sailing schools. This broad background informs his research approach and deepens his understanding of how outdoor learning can be implemented across different contexts and communities.
